Le projet BOOTLEG, initié par DOC avec le soutien de l’Institut Français s’appuie sur un échange artistique entre New York et Paris qui s’inscrit dans le cadre du Brooklyn Falls for France festival.

BOOTLEG, c’est une invitation à parcourir différentes formes de militantisme et de pensées politiques et philosophiques qui prend la forme :

• du projet d’édition UnderTheCoat

• de l’exposition collective BOOTLEG qui s’est tenue à Brooklyn du 4 au 6 octobre dernier

• d’une after party qui a suivi le vernissage de l’exposition, organisée en collaboration avec l’association Melting Point à Brooklyn

> UNDERTHECOAT <

L’édition UnderTheCoat associe un recueil de textes et d’images à la création d’un jeu de cartes. C’est une collecte transatlantique de données pour le recueil d’une part, et de dessins pour le jeu de cartes d’autre part.

Le jeu de cartes est abordé comme un ensemble aux facettes et usages multiples : support historique d’une diffusion idéologique, l’image peut opérer avec la force autoritaire des campagnes de propagande ou à l’inverse être le support de diffusion d’un savoir transgressif. Populaire ou élitiste, ludique ou initiatique, le jeu de cartes utilise l’impact visuel de l’image, il invite à la «manipulation».

L’ensemble est pensé comme un objet imprimé où le recueil sert à la fois d’annexe et de notice pour l’activation du jeu de cartes, support performatif qui permet d’articuler images et pensée politique en s’appuyant sur des références françaises et américaines.

> CORPUS <

Au retour de New York, le second volet de l’appel à contribution d’UnderTheCoat s’ouvre encore pour s’adresser au plus grand nombre. Les participant.e.s sont invité.e.s à étoffer encore le corpus.

Le contenu s’articule autour de ces cinq catégories :

* Tremblement (porosité – influence – relation)

* Flux (communication – langage – circulation – cyberrance)

* Occulte (magie – rituel – sacré)

* Autonomie (communauté – anarchisme – urbanisme libertaire)

* Play & Game (règles – échange – équipes)

Vous pouvez alimenter le corpus en envoyant textes, images, illustrations, schémas, langages cryptés, slogans ou toutes sortes de documents.

> CARTES <

Vous (seul ou collectivement) êtes invité.e.s à dessiner une carte à partir d’un des textes, (citations, slogans, poèmes) présents sur le site ou à partir d’un texte de votre choix que vous joindrez à votre envoi.

Consignes techniques :

– La carte imprimée est de 4cm/8cm. Le format de l’original reste libre tant qu’il respecte ce rapport de proportions.

– Les couleurs sont libres sachant que les cartes seront imprimées en mono-chrome

– Veillez à la lisibilité et à la qualité de vos dessins (attention aux changements d’échelles, épaisseur de trait, scans 300dpi…)

– Les cartes ne doivent pas comporter de texte

Pour toutes vos contributions, pensez à légender et rattacher votre envoi à une des catégories de la manière suivante : #flux, #occulte, #autonomie, #playandgame, #tremblement

Si votre contribution est un dessin pour une carte, ajoutez #carte

The BOOTLEG project, initiated by DOC with the support of the French Institute and part of the Brooklyn Falls for France festival, is based on an artistic exchange between New York and Paris. BOOTLEG is an invitation to discover different kinds of militant, political and philosophical schools of thoughts which take these forms :

• UnderTheCoat publishing project

• BOOTLEG collective exhibition held in Brooklyn last October 4th to 6th

• an after party of the opening exhibition, organized in collaboration with Melting Point, a collective based in Brooklyn

> UNDERTHECOAT <

The UnderTheCoat edition combines a corpus made with texts and images, creating a card game. It is a transatlantic collection of data for the corpus on one hand, and drawings for the card game on the other.

This card game is approached as a whole with multiple facets and uses, historical support of an ideological diffusion where the image can operate with the authoritarian force of propaganda campaigns or as the vector of rituals. Popular or elitist, playful or initiatory, the card game uses the visual impact of the image to summon «manipulation».

The whole is conceived as a printed object where the corpus serves both as an appendix and a notice to activate the card game, a performative support that allows to articulate images and political thoughts based on French and American references.

> CORPUS <

On our way back from New York, the second part of the opencall for contributions of the UnderTheCoat project is addressed to the greatest number.

The content is organized around these five categories:

* Tremors (porosity – influence – relationship)

* Flow (communication – language – circulation – cyberrance)

* Occult (magic – ritual – sacred)

* Autonomy (community – anarchism – urban emancipatory politics)

* Play & Game (Rules – Exchange – Team)

These themes constitute our framework for reflection. To feed the corpus you can send texts, images, illustrations, diagrams, encrypted languages, slogans or any kind of documents.

> CARDS <

You (alone or collectively) are invited to submit a drawing for a card made from one of the texts, (quotations, slogans, poems) present on the website or from a text of your choice that you will attach to your uploading.

Technical instructions:

– printed card is 4cm/8cm. Size of the original remains free as long as it respects these proportions

– ensure your drawing is readable (please take into account scale, line thickness…)

– colors are up to you but the cards will be printed in monochrome.

– cards will not contain any text

– Ensure the quality of your drawings, and the caption (possibly bound text, 300dpi)

For all your contributions, remember to reference your source and attach your upload to one of the categories in the following way: #flux, #occulte, #autonomy, #playandgame, #tremblement
