À l’invitation du DOC, « Salle des Pas-Perdus » est le titre d’une exposition dont les artistes Michel François et Richard Venlet sont les commissaires et dont ils ont conçu ensemble les principes et le dispositif.

Les œuvres, artefacts, éditions, exposés ici sont toutes et tous issus de leurs « collections » personnelles.
Ce recueil d’œuvres s’est constitué avec le temps et le hasard des rencontres , témoins des amitiés, des évènements aléatoires et des intérêts de chacun.

Chaque œuvre atteste une relation particulière, professionelle, esthétique ou affective à un artiste, un moment de la vie ou à l’histoire. Elles sont toutes le fait d’échanges ou de dons entre artistes, d’achats rarement.
En ce sens, ces « collections » ne correspondent à aucun choix esthétique conscient, à aucune stratégie spéculative ou esthétique, à aucune vélléité de « faire collection ».
Elles constituent des sortes d’ archives vivantes et totalement subjectives.

On s’y promènera de même, comme dans une salle des pas-perdus.

« Salle des Pas-Perdus » is the title of an exhibition which has artists Michel François and Richard Venlet as curators and conceptors of both the principles and the scenography, at the DOC’s request.

The works, artefacts and editions which are on display here are all a part of their personal « collections ». This repositery of artworks has built up over time and out of chance encounters, a witness to friendships, random events and personal interests of both artists/curators.

Each work testifies of a particular relationship whether it would be professional, aesthetic or emotional to an artist, a slice of life or to history. There are all here because gifts or exchanges between artists have occured, and have seldom been purchased. This means these « collections » do not respond to any conscious aesthetic choice, to a speculative or aesthetic strategy nor to any wish to « create a collection ». They make up a kind of living and totally subjective archive.

You can wander inside it, as in an anteroom, a « salle des pas-perdus ».

DOC est un lieu de production et de diffusion artistique situé au 26, rue du Docteur Potain, 75019 Paris. Créé en 2015, il s’agit d’un espace multiple dans lequel se mélangent pratiques (arts visuels, photographie, artisanat, art de la scène, musique, bijouterie/joaillerie, écriture, montage vidéo, etc.) et acteurs. Depuis plus de dix ans, DOC offre un espace de création, de rencontre, d’entraide et de coopération aux artistes et artisan·es parisien·nes. Par ailleurs, DOC propose une programmation artistique rare, exigeante et toujours à prix libre.

DOC, c’est aussi un collectif — formalisé en association loi 1901 — qui s’organise et qui fait vivre ce lieu. Ce collectif est composé de près de 100 membres, toutes artistes ou artisanes en résidence. Un mode de gouvernance basé sur l’auto-gestion s’est développé, et s’organise grâce à une assemblée générale mensuelle et des comités de pilotage dédiés à différentes thématiques.

DOC is a space for artistic production and presentation located at 26 Rue du Docteur Potain, 75019 Paris. Founded in 2015, it is a multifaceted space that brings together a variety of artistic practices (visual arts, photography, crafts, performing arts, music, jewelry making, writing, video editing, etc.) and artists. For over ten years, DOC has provided a space for creation, connection, mutual support, and collaboration for Parisian artists and craftspeople. In addition, DOC offers a unique, high-caliber artistic program, always with pay-what-you-can admission.

DOC is also a collective—formally organized as a nonprofit association under the 1901 law—that manages and brings this space to life. This collective is made up of nearly 100 members, all of whom are artists or artisans in residence. A governance model based on self-management has developed, organized through a monthly general assembly and steering committees dedicated to various themes.

The association has nine specialized art studios open to residents as well as to the general public: woodworking, metalworking, painting, sewing, offset printing, video post-production, sound, and screen printing. For more information on this topic, contact us at contact@doc.work.
