MATERIAL NARRATIVES: Get it While It’s Hot est une exposition regroupant le travail d’artistes qui utilisent tou-te-s des matériaux comestibles dans une expérimentation de la détérioration, la contamination ou l’adaptation. Comme son nom l’indique, cette exposition interroge la matérialité, la temporalité, et les circonstances que ces notions impliquent.

Pour cette exposition, les artistes ont produit de nouvelles sculptures, où des ingrédients vivants et organiques provoquent une mutation graduelle, une volatilité et une périssabilité. Dans ce processus, les oeuvres vivantes interagissent entre elles, réagissent, et se nourrissent de l’atmosphère qu’elles créent, et contre lequel elles se battent, avec lequel elles négocient et co-créent un environnement. Plutôt que d’entrer dans une galerie et d’y voir un produit de marbre ou de toile, nous sommes exposés à un composite semblable au nôtre; et qui comme l’humain, est dans un état d’impermanence. Cette fatalité délibérée nous mène à considérer le sens même de la valeur lorsqu’on garantit à une oeuvre une date d’expiration.

MATERIAL NARRATIVES: Get it While It’s Hot brings together the work of artists utilising edible media in an exploration of deterioration, contamination and adaptation. Like the name suggests, this exhibition provokes questions of materiality and temporality as well as the circumstances these notions impose.

For this exhibition, the artists are creating new sculptural works in which the organic and living ingredients in each piece cause a gradual evolution to the works as well as a volatility and guaranteed expiration. Throughout this process, the living works are interacting with each other reacting to and feeding off of the atmosphere each is creating. Battling, negotiating and co-creating an environment. Rather than entering a gallery and seeing a product of marble or canvas, we are confronting a composite not unlike our own, and like the human condition, in a state of impermanence. This deliberate mortality leads us to consider how we can interpret the meaning of value when an art work guarantees an expiration date.

DOC est un lieu de production et de diffusion artistique situé au 26, rue du Docteur Potain, 75019 Paris. Créé en 2015, il s’agit d’un espace multiple dans lequel se mélangent pratiques (arts visuels, photographie, artisanat, art de la scène, musique, bijouterie/joaillerie, écriture, montage vidéo, etc.) et acteurs. Depuis plus de dix ans, DOC offre un espace de création, de rencontre, d’entraide et de coopération aux artistes et artisan·es parisien·nes. Par ailleurs, DOC propose une programmation artistique rare, exigeante et toujours à prix libre.

DOC, c’est aussi un collectif — formalisé en association loi 1901 — qui s’organise et qui fait vivre ce lieu. Ce collectif est composé de près de 100 membres, toutes artistes ou artisanes en résidence. Un mode de gouvernance basé sur l’auto-gestion s’est développé, et s’organise grâce à une assemblée générale mensuelle et des comités de pilotage dédiés à différentes thématiques.

DOC is a space for artistic production and presentation located at 26 Rue du Docteur Potain, 75019 Paris. Founded in 2015, it is a multifaceted space that brings together a variety of artistic practices (visual arts, photography, crafts, performing arts, music, jewelry making, writing, video editing, etc.) and artists. For over ten years, DOC has provided a space for creation, connection, mutual support, and collaboration for Parisian artists and craftspeople. In addition, DOC offers a unique, high-caliber artistic program, always with pay-what-you-can admission.

DOC is also a collective—formally organized as a nonprofit association under the 1901 law—that manages and brings this space to life. This collective is made up of nearly 100 members, all of whom are artists or artisans in residence. A governance model based on self-management has developed, organized through a monthly general assembly and steering committees dedicated to various themes.
